How your subscription works, how trees are planted, and answers to common questions.

Managing Your Subscription

Your subscription is billed monthly or annually through Stripe. Annual plans save 17% (2 months free), and trees are planted monthly throughout the year regardless of billing interval. You can manage everything from your Dashboard:

  • Billing portal: Click “Manage Billing” to update your payment method, view invoices, download receipts, or cancel.
  • Business profile: Edit your company name, industry, location, website, and contact info directly on the dashboard.
  • Badge & widget: Add a partner badge or live impact widget to your website. See setup instructions below.
  • Planting history: View every planting with dates, tree counts, providers, and verification links.

Adding Badge & Widget to Your Website

Your dashboard includes two things you can add to your website: a partner badge and a live impact widget. Both work by pasting a short snippet of HTML into your site. No downloads, no plugins, no technical setup.

Partner Badge

A static image linking to forestmatters.com. Same design for all subscribers. Shows “We Plant Trees with ForestMatters, LLC.” Best for your footer, about page, or checkout page.

Live Impact Widget

Displays your business name and live tree count. Updates automatically after each billing cycle. Personalized to your account. Good for sidebars, about pages, or anywhere you want live proof.

How to add them

  1. 1Copy the embed code from your Dashboard. Each one has its own “Copy” button.
  2. 2Open your website editor and go to the page where you want the badge or widget (footer, about page, sidebar).
  3. 3Add a “Custom HTML” or “Code” block and paste the embed code into it. Save and publish.

The badge image is hosted on our servers. You do not need to download or upload any files. The widget loads from forestmatters.com and stays up to date on its own.

Platform-specific instructions

WordPress

Block Editor (Gutenberg):

  1. Edit the page or go to Appearance → Widgets for your footer.
  2. Click + to add a block. Search for “Custom HTML”.
  3. Paste the embed code and click Update.

Classic Editor:

  1. Edit the page and switch to the “Text” tab (not “Visual”).
  2. Paste the embed code where you want it.
  3. Click Update.
Squarespace

On a page:

  1. Edit the page and click + to add a block.
  2. Choose “Code” from the block menu.
  3. Paste the embed code. Make sure “Display Source” is off.
  4. Click outside the block to save, then publish.

In your footer (site-wide):

  1. Go to Settings → Advanced → Code Injection.
  2. Paste the embed code in the Footer field.
  3. Click Save.
Wix
  1. In the Wix Editor, click Add Elements (+) on the left.
  2. Go to Embed Code → Embed HTML.
  3. Drag the element where you want it on the page.
  4. Click “Enter Code”, select the Code tab, paste the embed code, and click Update.
  5. Publish your site.
Shopify

On a page:

  1. Go to Online Store → Pages and edit the page.
  2. In the content editor, click “Show HTML” (<> button).
  3. Paste the embed code and click Save.

In your footer (theme-wide):

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
  2. Find your Footer section. Add a “Custom Liquid” block.
  3. Paste the embed code and click Save.
Using a different platform? Look for “Custom HTML”, “Embed Code”, or “Code Block” in your website editor. If you cannot find it, contact your web host's support or email us at hello@forestmatters.com and we will help.
When to download the badge file
For websites, use the embed code. The image loads directly from our servers and you do not need to download anything. The download buttons on your dashboard are for offline use: presentations, printed materials, or email signatures. Both dark and light versions are available as SVG files.

Partner Badge Usage Guidelines

Your partner badge shows that your business plants trees monthly through ForestMatters. Using it correctly keeps your marketing accurate and compliant with FTC Green Guides.

What you can say

  • “We plant trees monthly through verified reforestation partners.”
  • “We partner with ForestMatters to plant [N] trees every month.”
  • “We have planted [N] trees since [year] through ForestMatters.”
  • Displaying the badge with the qualifying line it includes: “Trees planted through verified reforestation partners.”

What you cannot say

These claims are inaccurate and may violate FTC Green Guides:

  • “We are carbon neutral” or “carbon zero”
  • “We offset our carbon emissions”
  • “Environmentally neutral” or “net zero” (without a certified audit)
  • Any claim implying your business has eliminated or fully offset its environmental impact

Tree planting is a meaningful contribution to reforestation. It is not a verified carbon offset program. If you have questions about how to describe your participation accurately, contact us at hello@forestmatters.com.

How Tree Planting Works

Each month when your subscription payment processes, we automatically plant trees on your behalf through our reforestation partners. Here is how it works:

  1. Payment processes: Stripe charges your card on your billing date.
  2. Planting requested: Our system sends a planting request to our primary provider (Ecologi). If Ecologi is unavailable, we automatically fail over to Digital Humani.
  3. Request accepted: The provider confirms receipt of your planting request. Your dashboard updates with the provider reference.
  4. Trees planted: Our providers batch planting requests and fund reforestation projects on a rolling basis, typically within 30 days. Ecologi allocates trees to verified projects monthly.

If a planting request fails, we are alerted and retry. Failed requests are tracked in our system and resolved, typically within one business day.

Our Reforestation Partners

Ecologi (Primary)

Ecologi funds verified reforestation projects worldwide, including mangrove restoration in Madagascar, agroforestry in Kenya, and native woodland planting in the UK. Every tree planted through Ecologi is verified by third-party organizations and tracked on their platform. When your trees are planted, you receive a link to view them on Ecologi's site.

Digital Humani (Backup)

Digital Humani partners with reforestation nonprofits to plant trees globally. They serve as our automatic backup provider: if Ecologi is temporarily unavailable, your trees are planted through Digital Humani instead, with no action needed from you.

National Forest Foundation (Coming Soon)

We are working with the National Forest Foundation's Sapling Program to offer tree planting in U.S. National Forests. As a veteran-owned company, planting in American forests is a priority for us. This option will be available for Forest tier subscribers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I update my payment method?

Go to your Dashboard and click "Manage Billing." This opens the Stripe billing portal where you can update your card, view invoices, and download receipts.

Can I switch plans?

Yes. Contact us at hello@forestmatters.com to upgrade or downgrade. Your planting history and partner badge carry over. If you upgrade mid-cycle, the new tree count takes effect on your next billing date.

What happens if I cancel?

You can cancel anytime through the billing portal. Your trees already planted stay planted. Your partner badge and directory listing are removed at the end of the billing period. If you re-subscribe later, your planting history is preserved.

What if my payment fails?

Stripe retries failed payments up to 3 times over approximately 3 weeks. During this time your account is marked as past due. If payment succeeds, your account reactivates. If all retries fail, the subscription is canceled.

How do I know my trees were actually planted?

Every planting request is logged with a provider reference in your dashboard. For Ecologi plantings, you get a direct link to track your trees on their platform. Ecologi batches planting requests and funds reforestation projects monthly, so your trees may appear as 'requested' for up to 30 days before being allocated to a specific project. All plantings go through verified reforestation partners with third-party auditing.

Can I delete my account and data?

Yes. Go to your Dashboard, scroll to the bottom, and use the "Delete Account" option. This anonymizes your business profile and removes you from the directory. Planting records are retained (anonymized) for audit purposes. This complies with GDPR and CCPA requirements.

Do you offer annual billing?

Yes. Annual plans save 17% compared to monthly billing (2 months free). You pay once per year and trees are planted monthly throughout the year, same as monthly subscribers. Choose your billing interval at checkout.

Do you offer custom or enterprise plans?

For businesses planting more than 50 trees per month, contact us at hello@forestmatters.com for custom pricing.
